How it works
You back each way at the bookie, then lay the win and the place on the exchange. Most of the time you lose a little.
The extra place
If the horse finishes in a place the bookie pays but the exchange doesn't, both your lays win and so does the place part of your bet.
Finding good races
Look for a small qualifying loss and tight place lay odds. Bigger fields and longer odds give more chances of hitting it.
