Found a sound on the NexusHub Soundboard that uses your work without permission? Here's how to get it taken down, in plain words.

The short version

NexusHub (nexushub.diy) is a small website run by Parky. The Soundboard lets people play, share and upload short sound clips, and some of those clips are uploaded by visitors.

We respect copyright. This page explains how to tell us about a clip that uses your work without permission, under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and the matching UK and EU rules. It applies to sounds, soundboards and sound pages (nexushub.diy/s/…) on NexusHub.

Every sound has a removal button, so you don't need to write anything formal:

  1. Open the sound on the Soundboard or its own sound page.
  2. Press the three dots (…) on the sound.
  3. Choose Request removal, then I own the copyright.
  4. Add a short note and your email so we can reply, then press Send request.
Requests go straight to a real person. If you'd like to send a full formal notice instead, use the email route in the next section.

Email [email protected] with the subject Copyright notice, or use the contact form with Copyright or takedown picked. Include:

  • Who you are: your name, and the company or artist you act for if it isn't you.
  • Your work: what it is (for example the song, film, game or recording the clip comes from).
  • The clip: the link to each sound or soundboard on NexusHub. The address in your browser when the sound page is open is perfect.
  • How to reach you: an email address, and a phone number or postal address.
  • Good faith: a sentence saying you believe in good faith that the use isn't allowed by you, your agent or the law.
  • Accuracy: a sentence saying the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the copyright or may act for the owner.
  • Your signature: typing your full name is fine.
Missing details slow things down, because we'll have to write back and ask. Sending a notice you know is false can make you liable for any harm it causes.
  • We read every notice and reply to the email address you give us.
  • While we check a valid notice, the sound is hidden so it can't be played, shared or downloaded.
  • If the notice is valid, the sound is removed from the Soundboard, its sound page and any soundboards it was added to.
  • Where we know who uploaded it, we let them know it was removed and why.
  • Sounds that several different people report are hidden automatically until someone has looked at them.

If you uploaded a sound that was taken down and you believe that was a mistake (for example it's your own recording, or you have permission to use it), you can send a counter-notice to [email protected] with:

  • Your name, email and a phone number or postal address.
  • The link or name of the sound that was removed.
  • A sentence saying, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification.
  • A sentence agreeing to the courts where you live (or, outside the US, any court where NexusHub may be found) and to accept legal papers from the person who sent the original notice.
  • Your signature (typing your full name is fine).

We pass a valid counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us they've started legal action, the sound can go back up after 10 to 14 working days.

Uploading other people's work again and again isn't allowed. Accounts that keep uploading sounds they don't have the rights to can lose the ability to upload, or be closed.

Most NexusHub tools run on your own device and don't host anything, so there's nothing for us to remove. The downloaders only fetch a link you paste, and the terms of use say you may only download things you own or have permission to save.

If you've spotted something else on NexusHub that uses your work, email [email protected] with the same details and we'll look at it the same way.

Not sure whether to send a notice? Ask first and we'll help. Most removals are sorted with a single message.
